TET qualified candidates distressed; excluded from Merit List
Hundreds of candidates who have cleared TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) and its advance test have failed to find a place on the 1500 strong merit list released recently by the Education Requirement Directorate for the post of Social Science teachers. These candidates result has been with held by the Education Department.
Application were required to pick at least two subjects in social science from those mentioned in the government advertisement . But the list did not include some subjects which are recognized by all universities in the state for the appointment of teachers and also by the National Council for the Teacher Education, namely philosophy , psychology , education , defence studies , religion, social work an community education. Many TET qualified candidates opted for these subjects.
A candidates from Punjab university , whose result has been with held said ” Genuine candidates are being harassed. The officer who advertised the posts without knowing the importance of these subject owes and explanation.”
The department notice said that,”A candidate having any doubt regarding his marks or merit can contact the directorate till November 19.
DPE Schools (Senior Secondary) Balbir Dhol said,”The Director General, School Education was out of station, so we could not call the Vice Chancellor of prominent universities to decide on the merit lists of the candidates who has chosen different subjects.
Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said,” We will not ignore the merit of deserving candidates,”
