Sidhu’s Awaaz-e-Punjab to not contest poll: Advantage Congress

Navjot Sidhu

Navjot Singh Sidhu has decided to keep Awaaz-e-Punjab as a forum to raise voice of Punjabis on different platforms. This is a major stepdown from Sidhu’s earlier proclamation of creating a new party to contest elections. Sources say he may look for an ‘alliance’ with one of leading political parties.

Awaaz-e-Punjab’ has been formed by Sidhu along with former hockey captain and MLA Pargat Singh and two Ludhiana MLA brothers-Simarjit Singh Bains and Balwinder Bains.

Earlier, Punjab Congress Chief Amarinder Singh claimed the fourth front of Navjot Singh Sidhu, Pargat Singh and Bains brothers would benefit the Congress.

“Both Pargat and Bains brothers have Akali background and Sidhu was from the BJP. So, the disgruntled people from the SAD-BJP and the AAP will now go to Sucha Singh Chhotepur and Sidhu, not to Kejriwal. Akalis will break away in large numbers before elections and gravitate towards the Congress or the fourth front.” He said.

He further said, “Finally, the Congress stands to gain. The fourth front cannot build up a party in four months. Even I tried to form a new party once, but failed.”
