PM Modi serving langar at Golden Temple | Political stunt or great gesture?

PM Modi serving langar at Golden Temple

Modi is the first PM to serve langar but his gesture got alot of attention and rose several eyebrows. This become a topic of debate as why PM served langar in poll-bound state?
Modi visited Golden Temple on the eve of Heart of Asia Summit’s inauguration along with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani.
Apart from this Modi’s woollen cap and a brief halt in kirtan when the dignitaries entered the sanctum grabbed much attention. But according to experts wearing the cap was not objectionable but his gesture to serve the langar turns out to be of political gains.

Modi spent around 35 minutes at Golden Temple in the evening. He bowed 5 times before Guru Granth Sahib before he and Ghana were presented with Siropa. Chief Information Officer Gurbachan Singh said”We were informed that He and Ghani would have langar but when started serving it was a surprise.”

On Modi’s cap and the brief halt in Kirtan, Golden temple manager Sulakhan Singh said” The cap Modi wore a cap was acceptable as covering the head was acceptable. The kirtan was halted as a tradition of ‘chownki’ of Bir Baba Buddha Sahib is ferried out to Parikarma everyday. When it is taken out of the Sanctum or brought in kirtan is halted for Ardaas. It was coincidence that PM and other dignitaries entered at that time.
