Punjab Congress goes for a ride!
Chandigarh: The “Punjab Congress Express”, wherein all the Congress leaders would be aboard, is set to start its journey, comprising of a fleet of 13 buses that will cover the 13 Lok Sabha seats and 117 Assembly seats as part of a campaign strategy drawn up by Prashant Kishor.
The Punjab Congress chief, Amarinder Singh, flagged off the buses from the party’s headquarters in Chandigarh today. The campaign will rolltwo days later. Touring around the state for 37 days. Party leaders have to address 1,404 meetings by the end of October when the campaign gets over.
“There are 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state and for each parliamentary constituency, a team of three to four leaders has been assigned. They will travel through each halka (Assembly constituency) within the Lok Sabha seats and reach out to the people,” said a Congress leader.
The party has set a target of reaching out to 1.5 crore voters through these meetings.
“In each of the halkas, the meeting will be held in three phases with a gap of around 12 days…. In this manner, all the 117 halkas would be covered,” said a Congress leader.
As the campaign strategist for the Congress in the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh polls, Kishor has laid stress on mass contact. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s 2,500-km-long yatra across Uttar Pradesh and Amarinder’s “Coffee with Captain” have been designed with the purpose of reaching out to the maximum number of voters in the two states.
