Pixel by Google; India launch announced | Specs, Prices, Review
Google hosted an event in San Francisco on Tuesday to unveil Pixel, the first Google phone to carry exclusively Google branding. The company called it the “first phone made by Google inside and out.”
The phones will be launched in India on October 13th, 2016 with pre-orders accepted on the same day on Flipkart, Reliance Digital and Croma. The price of the phones will start at Rs 57,000. A mobile phone retailer in Chandigarh said that he has already got over a dozen queries on Pixel within last 4 hours.
Pixel is poised to take on the iPhone with a built-in artificially intelligent assistant, 4K video and other premium features. It seems that google has come up with a hit, especially with Samsung facing Battery issues with its flagship Galaxy Note 7 phones. However, customers will probably wait for a detailed review before they start buying in droves.
In the US, pricing for the 5-inch Pixel ($649) and 5.5-inch Pixel XL ($769) is same as as the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus.
The devices boast 4GB of RAM, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor, a fingerprint sensor and a 12MP rear-facing camera, which is its most impressive feature.Google showed a report by DxOMark, that rates camera quality in almost all popular DSLR and smartphone cameras on the market, to claim that Pixel has the best camera ever on a smartphone, better than iPhone7.
The phones drop its existing Nexus branding in favor of “Pixel,” a nod to Google’s existing tablet and Chromebook line. Both run on Android 7.1 Nougat, Google’s most recent mobile operating system.
The devices, which are available for pre-sale starting on Tuesday, come in three colors: quite black, very silver and really blue.
Google also announced an upgraded virtual reality headset and the Chromecast Ultra.
