Pargat Singh finally resigns from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)
Chandigarh, Sep 12: Former hockey captain-turned- politician Pargat Singh today resigned from Shiromani Akali Dal, accusing party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal of “betraying” the trust of people of Punjab.
The MLA from Jalandhar cantonment, who was recently suspended from SAD for his alleged anti-party activities, sent his resignation to Badal.
Pargat Singh has already joined hands with Navjot Singh Sidhu to form the fourth front Awaaz-e-Punjab.
Pargat Singh was not on good terms with the party leadership. He was not happy over a proposed waste treatment plant in his constituency and had criticised the Badal government for forcing an unpopular project. To keep him in good humour, Akali Dal had offered him the post of chief parliamentary secretary in April but he had skipped the swearing in ceremony.
Pargat Singh is married to the daughter of late Darbara Singh, one of the most influential political families of Punjab. His father-in-law was chief minister during the troubled times of militancy.
