Navjot Sidhu to become ‘free’ on Independence Day?

, who quit the Rajya Sabha earlier this month, will join the Aam Aadmi Party on August 15, Independence Day, chosen to celebrate the Punjab politician’s “freedom from the ,” sources have told NDTV.

Mr Sidhu had resigned as a nominated member of the Rajya Sabha last week. After a week of making no public comments, he said on Monday that he resigned because he was asked to “not even look at” Punjab, where elections will be held early next year.

In the mean time, as a show of his strength among the Jat-Sikh community, Sidhu plans to organise a motorbike rally against drug abuse in New Delhi.

“This rally is against drug abuse and it should be seen only in that light. It is a community initiative against a social problem, though we wish that the BJP as well as Sidhu arrive at an amicable solution to the problem. No one wants Sidhu to leave the party,” said Sukhpreet Singh Malhotra, BJP’s Sikh Cell co-convenor and one of the organisers.

The public personalities who are to attend the rally is also suggestive of the anti-Akali Dal sentiment rife among Sidhu’s bandwagon.

Meanwhile, sources close to Sidhu told Mail Today that he had got competing offers from the Congress and the AAP.
