Meet the man behind Kala Chashma – Head Constable Shera!

We all have heard and grooved on the song “Kala Chashma” and also know that it is a remake of the old 90’s version.
Even though the movie Baar Baar Dekho, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif, performed only decently at the box office, but the song has gone over the roof! Its spread like fire, with people across the country dancing to it.
However, what is scarcely known is the fact the song was originally written by Amrik Singh Shera, a head constable in Kapurthala.
Little did he know that the song for which he earned a mere Rs. 11,000 would be featured in a bollywood movie, let alone, climb up the charts so quickly!
Amrik Singh, 43, a native of Talwandi Chaudhrian village near Jalandhar had no idea that his song, written in 1990, would feature in a movie. “Two months ago, I got a call from one of my friends that ‘Kala Chashma’ was being played on one of the channels. I do not know how I felt. I was happy but also shocked about everything that was happening. ”
It was at a tender age of 15 that he first wrote the song, when he was just in Class 9.
Without any grudge or ill-feelings, the writers only complaint was that, “No one from the film industry called me to Mumbai during the music launch or screening of the film. I just wanted to go there and let everyone know that a person from a small village in Punjab has written the song.”
“Punjabi song writers do not get their due. Being a writer here is not easy,” expressed the Kala Chashma songwriter. He has more songs to his credit made famous by Miss Pooja and Roshan Prince.
