Mamta Banerjee to Campaign for AAP in Punjab
NEW DELHI: West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, an ally of the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi chief minister #Arvind Kejriwal, plans to campaign in support of #AAP for the Punjab assembly elections next year.
Banerjee was first approached by the AAP chief to campaign for his party in Punjab when the two had met for one of the earlier federal front efforts here in Delhi, according to #TMC sources. Afterwards, when Kejriwal attended Banerjee’s swearing-in as chief minister for the second time in Kolkata in May, the TMC chief committed to him that she will campaign for AAP for the Punjab polls.
Banerjee has hardly campaigned outside of Bengal and this would be the first time that she plans to seriously campaign in another state.
Ms Banerjee and her Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal, who are known to have a good rapport, had an hour-long meeting last week at the latter’s 4, Flag Staff residence where the two leaders are believed to have discussed a range of political issues, including the confrontation between the Delhi government and the centre.
The meeting came on a day when Mr Kejriwal launched a blistering attack on the Prime Minister, claiming that PM Modi may get him “killed”. When asked about the video in which he made the sensational claim, the Delhi chief minister, however, declined to comment.
