Irony | AAP MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar charged with Rs 130 Cr black money too joins protest against Demonetisation
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is at the forefront of protesting the banning of Rs 500 and 1000 Rs notes by Narendra Modi to curb Black money. Kejriwal has joined Mulayam, Lalu and Mamta in vilifying Narendra Modi. Yesterday, in a protest Rally organised by AAP, its MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar also participated and called this move anti poor.
However, Tanwar himself is not known for his honesty. In July, 2016, Income Tax officials recovered Rs 130 crore in “unaccounted money” after conducting raids at Tanwar’s house, according to media reports. I-T officials, accompanied by almost 20 policemen, also conducted searches at the residences of Tanwar’s brother and his domestic help. According to a neighbour, they didn’t even spare a pile of buffalo dung, and “searched it meticulously”.
Tanwar joined the growing list of Aam Aadmi Party MLAs who have had run-ins with the law. Several party MLAs been either been booked or arrested for various offences. Delhi Chief Minister and AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of organising a witch-hunt against his party legislators by foisting false cases.
A construction company of Tanwar’s, its cross-holdings and transactions worth Rs 7 crore are under the IT department’s scanner. Tax officials said they were acting on specific information about tax evasion and money laundering in Tanwar’s property deals.
A BJP leader in Delhi said that it’s unfortunate that AAP, instead of taking action against Corrupt, is joining leaders like lalu and Mulayam in support of black money.
