Drug firms to sue ‘Udta Punjab’ producers
Drug Manufacturers are exploring the possibility of initiating legal action against the producer and director of Hindi film #Udta Punjab for portraying the Asia’s pharmaceutical hub in #Himachal Pradesh poor light as manufacturer of illegal #drugs.
Himachal Drug Manufacturers Association (HDMA) president MB Goyal said since the film had shown a closed pharmaceutical unit at Barotiwala producing illicit drugs it had tarnished the image of Himachal as well as the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh which was acclaimed as the Asia’s pharmaceutical hub.
The association members questioned the film makers as to why the BBN area was shown as producer of illegal drugs and on what grounds such derogatory things had been highlighted where a closed pharmaceutical unit was shown to be producing illegal drugs.
The film has not only put a question mark over the drug regulatory system in the state but it had also put a question mark on the quality of drugs produced here.
They said it was a clear attempt to vitiate the image of the Asia’s pharmaceutical hub which was not only producing quality drugs for the country but also exporting to several countries.
The film, which had been released on June 17, had raised many an eyebrows in the Himachal state government for flagrantly showcasing nefarious manufacturing of illegal drugs at night. These drugs were shown to be used by the youth in Punjab.
