Chandigarh | Tribune Chowk cloverleaf flyover to cost Rs 372 crore

UT Administration has estimated the proposed cloverleaf flyover at Tribune Chowk to cost around Rs 372 crore. Sources said while conveying the estimated cost of the project, the Administration had also sought approval from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to hire a consultant.
The Administration started work on the project after approval was given by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. An officer said the Administration was waiting for approval from the ministry to appoint a consultant.The consultant would prepare a comprehensive plan on the type of the flyover to ease traffic from Tribune Chowk to Zirakpur.
Permission has been sought as the expenditure on preparing the report will be borne by the ministry.On a demand of Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher, Gadkari had given approval for the flyover. He had stated that the ministry would appoint a consultant to study the problem and suggest a solution to the traffic problem.
The Engineering Department is in favour of construction of a cloverleaf flyover at Tribune Chowk. Tribune Chowk is an important junction as a large number of vehicles pass through the roundabout daily. Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer, Administration, said they were expecting approval from the ministry soon. The entire cost of construction of the flyover will be borne by the Centre.
