Bathinda gets new airport


Bathinda on Sunday became the latest city in the country to get air connectivity with a new flight connecting it with New Delhi being started.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju inaugurated the newly-built civil air terminal at Bathinda airport and the flight for Delhi-Bathinda-Delhi sector.T he first flight, operated by Air India Regional, landed at the airport on Sunday.

The flight was welcomed with fire engines spraying water on it.Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who is the MP from Bathinda, were also present. “The inauguration of this airport has brought Bathinda on the world map with fanfare.

Industry in the area would get a gigantic boost with the commencement of flights from the airport,” Sukhbir Badal said on the occasion.Badal said the Adampur airport had also been approved by the Union government and efforts were on to get the clearance for Ludhiana and Pathankot also.

He said the Delhi-Amritsar-Birmingham flight has also been accorded sanction by the Union government which would provide a direct link from Amritsar to Britain.

He said that Bathinda has witnessed revolutionary transformation during the past 10 years in each sector, particularly the development of roads and said it was all due to the sincere efforts of the SAD-BJP government.

He said the aviation sector in the state has been on the upswing under the leadership of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal with a string of airports established or in the process of being established.

In her address on the occasion, the Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal said that ever since the NDA government has taken over, Bathinda has occupied prime importance in the scheme of things of the Union Government.

She said the Central University, AIIMS and now the Bathinda airport would act as game changers for the region.

She also expressed supreme confidence that top standard rail, road and air connectivity would make Bathinda an important business hub.
