Attacked RSS leader Jagdish Gagreja dies in DMC Ludhiana

Senior RSS leader and vice-president of the outfit’s Punjab unit Jagdish Gagneja, who was shot at in Jalandhar by unidentified assailants in August, died at a hospital in Ludhiana today morning.

Doctors said his condition worsened on Wednesday night. His blood pressure fell rapidly on Thursday morning and spine was raptured. He was declared dead at 9.16 am.

Gagneja was brought to DMC from Patel Hospital in Jalandhar on August 7, a day after two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants had shot at him from close range near a busy market in the heart of the town. He had been on life support system ever since.

Due to security reasons, post mortem will be conducted at DMC itself instead of civil hospital.

Punjab BJP vice-president Anil Sarin said cremation will be held at 4pm at Ram Bagh in Jalandhar.

Gagneja’s wife and two daughters were inconsolable as they headed for Jalandhar for the last rites. Many senior RSS and BJP leaders, including Phul Chand Jain, Anil Sareen, commissioner of police Jatinder Singh Aulakh and Dr Rishi Pal, ADC Ludhiana district also reached the hospital to pay their last respects.
