Arvind Kejriwal | Punjab does not need to know its next CM
Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal is famous for changing his stance opportunistically. In Delhi and Haryana elections, he accused BJP for not announcing its CM candidate. However, he refused to project CM candidate in Punjab for Aam Aadmi Party as there are many candidates for the coveted post in AAP.
It’s likely that he himself would like to be Punjab CM but will not announce it till the election results are out in AAP’s favour as this claim will provide ammunition to rival parties ‘outsider’ accusation against him.
In the mean times, Arvind Kejriwal went on a three-day whirlwind tour of Punjab this week seeking people’s mandate for the upcoming assembly elections and trying to convince them that the AAP was the best replacement to the Akali-BJP regime.
When asked why AAP has not announced its CM candidate and whether he himself is in the running, Kejriwal sidestepped “It is not important for the people of Punjab right now. They are not asking who would be the CM. They want to know how we will curb the drug menace and corruption.”
He is also asking people to fund APP as it ‘does not’ have money. Analysts think this may be due to Modi Government putting restrictions on dubious foreign donation to NGOs and political parties. Kejriwal said “The wave is in our favour as we have promised a corruption-free and drug-free Punjab. I also appeal to the people to contribute financially as our party does not have money.”
