Another AAP MLA, Ritu Raj Govind, arrested for ‘Gundagardi’ | Delhi
NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) loves to take law & order in its hands. Its MLA from Kirari, Ritu Raj Govind, was arrested on the charge of disrupting peace and getting into fight with people on Sunday. The legislator had been detained for disturbing Chhath Ghat in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar.
DCP (Outer) M N Tiwari confirmed the arrests. The police had invoked Section 144 of CrPC (prohibiting assembly of more than four people) around the ghat as it is a heritage property. The MLA allegedly gathered at the ghat along with his supporters to offer puja despite being stopped by policemen and volunteers. BJP ex-MLA Anil Jha has also been arrested over the same issue.
Govind, however, said that he was trying to build a ghat at Nithari Talaab near the expressway along the riverbank at Kirari. The villagers had objected to his move even though he clarified that the construction of the ghat was being funded by Delhi government.
Police said that the MLA reached the ghat despite being informed that the prohibitory order was in place till November 7. His supporters got into a scuffle with some locals, which led to stone pelting by a group of villagers.
“We stopped escalation of the situation as we were on the spot. The legislator was taken to Aman Vihar police station and detained for a few hours,” said a senior police officer.
