Amrinder Gill (Angrez): Punjabi Super Star
Amrinder Gill (40) is one of the biggest Punjabi singers and actors today. His song Mera Deewanapan received 20 million hits on YouTube.
Raised in Amritsar, Amarinder Gill studied at Khalsa College, Amritsar. He is alumni of Guru Nanak Dev University. During college, he performed Bhangra as a support artist for personalities like Sarbjit Cheema.
Did you know that Amrinder also worked as a Bank Manager in the Ferozpur central cooperative bank before his singing career took off.
He recorded his first song for Jalandhar Doordarshan program Kala Doria. Gill came into the limelight with his breakthrough track “Paigam,” followed by such hits such like “Daru,” “Madhaania,” “Khedan De Din,” with Sunidhi Chauhan, and many others like “Mel Kara De” and “Dildarian.”
He made his acting debut under Punjabi Director Manmohan Singh’s superhit Punjabi Film Munde UK De in 2009 in a supporting role with Jimmy Shergill and Neeru Bajwa. Amrinder never looked back since then.
Amrinder played lead roles in Ik Kudi Punjab Di, Taur mittran Di, Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22, and Saadi Love Story. His role in Daddy Cool Munde Fool was really likes by everyone as was his 2014 hit, Goreyan Nu Daffa Karo. However, his biggest hit till date has been Angrej – a 2015 blockbuster which moved him to the top of Punjabi Film Industry.
His latest Film “Love Punjab’ got into a bureaucratic muddle and Amrinder had to file a complaint with police after the trailer of his upcoming film ‘Love Punjab’ was abruptly removed from YouTube.
He will also be seen in a lead role in Priyanka Chopra’s first Punjabi feature film (yet untitled), a coming-of-age drama.
