Amarinder Singh ignored Beant Singh anniversary?
Once again, Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh decided to ignore the 21st death anniversary function of former Congress Chief Minister late Beant Singh, credited with routing Sikh militancy from the state.
His death anniversary was observed at the Beant Singh memorial here today which was attended by prominent Congress leaders from the state. Clarifying Amarinder’s absence, a spokesperson of Amarinder said he that he had fever and hence could not make it.
There may be a political angle to is but Captain Amarinder Singh has often stayed away from Beant’s anniversary function as he considers himself to be a tall Sikh Congress leader, who resigned from the party in 1984 to protest against Operation Blue Star and later from Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government to protest against Operation Black Thunder.
The function was attended by former minister and Beant’s son, Tejparkash Singh, several MLAs including Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Jagmohan Kang, Balbir Sidhu and MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, grandson of Beant Singh.
