AAP in Punjab now led by two comedians – Ghuggi replaces Chhotepur
Considering all the jokes swirling around Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), it’s not surprising that the top two AAP leaders in Punjab now are professional comedians – Bhagwant Mann and the new convener Gurpreet Ghuggi. Punjab Elections could have been even more fun if Navjot Singh Sidhu the celeb TV comedian judge had joined AAP too.
Comedian-turned-politician Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi (45) was appointed AAP’s new Punjab convener on Sunday. He replaces Sucha Singh Chhotepur, who was sacked on August 26 after a cash-sting video in the state preparing for elections in early 2017. There were rumours about Chhotepur’s reconciliation with the party but the announcement by AAP political affairs committee virtually ends any chance of the estranged leader’s reinstatement. Ghuggi had joined AAP in February 2016 and has been popular with voters with his earthy folk humour.
The AAP political affairs committee met in New Delhi to clear Ghuggi’s name for the post. AAP Punjab affairs in-charge Sanjay Singh said Ghuggi will soon meet the organisation heads in the stateAAP Punjab affairs in-charge Sanjay Singh said Ghuggi will soon meet the organisation heads in the state.
Co-Incharge of AAP affairs in Punjab, MLA Jarnail Singh, interacting with the media at Chandigarh on Saturday, added that the committee has issued a notice to Sucha Singh Chhotepur to appear before the committee. Notably, a two member committee was appointed by the AAP’s National convener and Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal to probe the allegations against Chhotepur.
MLA Jarnail Singh informed that AAP’s National convener and Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal was willing to give more time to Punjab masses. He informed that a suitable residence was being searched for him in Punjab to avoid his stay in Circuit Houses and Hotels.
