: An increasing number of leaders in Delhi and Punjab are getting caught in cases, proving promises of its leader of providing an ‘honest’ government to be hollow.

Sarwan Singh Hayer, who had joined AAP sometime ago after being thrown out of SAD, has been booked by the Nakodar police for fraud of Rs71 lakh. According to complainant Harbans Singh of village Tutt Kalan, he had paid Rs71 lakh in 2010 to Sarwan Singh for getting long -term visas of Canada for four members of his family, and mutation of their land in the revenue records.

In his complaint of April 28 to SSP Jalandhar Rural, Harbans alleged that Rs60 lakh were paid to Hayer for getting the Canadian visas and Rs11 lakh for the mutation of land in the revenue records. He alleged that Hayer kept promising him that he would get the visas, and then said he would return the money. “He finally flatly refused to pay back the money,” he alleged, and cited witnesses in whose presence the money was given to Hayer.

It is learnt Hayer was earlier close to district SAD (Rural) president Ajit Singh Kohar, who appointed him to the post, but later switched sides to AAP when its graph started rising. SSP entrusted the enquiry to DSP Nakodar who found the allegations prima facie true, and so Hayer has been booked under sections 406 and 420 of the IPC.
