AAP chooses youth over experience for Ludhiana Seats

Ludhiana AAP

has announced candidates for four seats – West, Payal, Dakha and Sahnewa,out of a total 14 in Ludhiana Constituency. AAP expects to win these seats, as the party’s performance was better than Congress and in Dakha, Payal and Ludhiana West in the Lok Sabha elections. Except for senior Supreme Court lawyer and activist, , for the Dakha seat, the other three are local young men (no woman yet).

This “most sought-after” ticket is given to the 36 year old ‘England-returned’ Ahbaab Grewal, prefering youth over another hopeful, retired PAU scientist Dr HS Cheema. Currently, he is general secretary of Kisan and Labor Wing AAP.


Harjot Singh Bains, chief of the party’s youth wing and law graduate, at 25, is the youngest to have been nominated. Bains is a founder member of the party, joining it at the age of 23 and was the Punjab convener during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.


Gurpreet Singh Lapran (36) is the party candidate from Payal constituency. It is currently held by Vidhan Sabha speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal of SAD. Putting up at village Lapran, Gurpreet Singh used to run a small grocery shop. He joined AAP as volunteer in 2013 and is now vice-president of its SC/ST wing.
